The Green Man Riseth
Before thee I was with thee carrying my lamp in dim fog,
Before the chirp of the birds or the croak of the green frog,
To the left hand of Allfather, I stood looking over the good,
Before the crash of the rolling waves or the scent of the sandalwood.
-
And with thee I strode when Prana woke the swirling stars,
When Allfather froze Pluto and breathed fire into Mars,
And when Arda become a twinkle in his thrice divine eye,
There I came to play with men Neath’ it’s bright blue sky.
-
And in the bark of the Oak tree I would drip like it’s sticky sap,
As I gazed over Askr with all the beasts gathered at his lap,
And I was called Ox, Lion and Eagle and was also dove,
And I was the uncreated Embla who also Adam did so love.
-
And when she fell by dragon in my garden of Ash and elm,
Never I ceased my armament nor surrendered my radiant helm,
For in raiment I shone in Bifröst in seven gifts from Thrice on high,
As Noah bore the weight of all the beasts beneath the starry sky.
-
For into woods I permeated with all the tribes and Dan,
And rose with circling dolmens and menhirs upon the cairn,
Four were my waters that poured forth from temple stone,
And found was i wherever man’s search for truth was prone.
-
And strong were my fibres that hung the king upon the rood,
For my wisdom came of torture and the will of the viperous brood,
For the angels trumpet harked aloud an Ostara song,
And riseth did I greening all, in a radiant verdant throng.
-
-3rd Sunday of Ostara.
